Pilates

Change your body shape through pilates

What are the benefits of Pilates?

"You have one body to carry you through life. Honour it! Nourish it! Prioritise it!"

Lisa Everding, Earthy Angels

Pilates

The Pilates method is low impact and focuses on improving whole body strength, flexibility, alignment, posture and balance. It improves core strength by developing correct engagement of the pelvic floor and abdominals. Pilates practice enhances your body mind connection and trains the body as an integrated whole.

Pilates works the stronger, deep and intrinsic muscles of the body, creating long lean muscle as opposed to superficial muscles that bulk. The exercises are performed with an emphasis on precision and technique with controlled flowing movements while using breath to centre the mind.

The classes are carried out on the mat and use body weight or equipment to strengthen and tone your entire body. Pilates is suitable for any age and all levels from beginner to the more advanced. Classes are enjoyable and you’ll feel the burn in your practice!

Yogalates

Yogalates is a fusion of yoga and pilates. Offering you the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of both practices. This class is slower paced than our pilates classes.

Yogalates combines the yogic focus on enhanced mind and body awareness, inner connection, strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. Also drawing on Pilates techniques to improve posture, core strength and create a strong, stable foundation.

Classes may include props and equipment like blocks, rings, bands and pilates ball to the practice for strengthening and toning.

Offering you the perfect balance of strong mindful meditative movement with breath and of course stretching and relaxation. Ensuring you feel strong and empowered yet flexible, calm and connected.

This is not your average Pilates and Yoga Studio; this tribe of humans is so much more. Lisa’s studio may well be her life’s passion, but she has a tremendously talented group of instructors that are all experts. Don’t let their level of professionalism scare you if you are a beginner; the vibe is warm, welcoming, and inclusive in every way. It doesn’t matter if you have just started, or are well through your health and fitness journey, the support of this place and team has something for everyone. I am not your typical fitness devotee, but I have found a tribe and studio that I am obsessed with in the Earthy Angels.

I joined Earthy Angels and haven't looked back. From the first time I walked into the beautiful studio and meeting the lovely Lisa my life has changed for the better. I've experienced anxiety in my life, but since doing these classes my anxiety has gone. I'm a happier person which carries into my family and life. I'm a better Mum and wife.

I have only just started at Earthy Angels but quickly a convert. I just feel amazing after I attend a class and can’t wait to see my progress. Lisa is a great instructor, attentive and supportive and even though I’m a beginner and rather uncoordinated she never makes me feel this way. Highly recommend you give it a go.

Helen

A huge thank you for welcoming me into your amazing space for Pilates. This is the first time I have started to make time for my own self care without any mother guilt. Although my body is a little slow every week to recover from the class, I am absolutely loving Earthy Angels. Thank you so much for all your guidance and support x

I’m new to yoga & pilates and not very flexible

That’s ok and we all start at the same place. Many people think you need to be flexible to start yoga, but that’s not the case. The teachers will help you with variations of poses and movements. Regular yoga practice will help increase your flexibility. This newfound agility will be balanced by strength, coordination and enhanced cardiovascular health as well as improved confidence and overall well-being.

Can I practice if I’m pregnant?

There are some variables to this question. It depends on your current practice prior to your pregnancy. If you already practice regularly we encourage you to listen to your body and do what feels right for you. You will take full responsibility for your practice. You must advise the teacher of your pregnancy and what trimester you’re in before you practice. It will be up to the teacher’s discretion. We recommend obtaining clearance from your doctor regardless.

As a general rule:

  • If you have NEVER practiced or have practiced very little before your pregnancy, you should practice only prenatal yoga/pilates while pregnant.
  • If you ALREADY had a strong practice before your pregnancy, you may be able to continue a fairly vigorous practice-with modifications-after your first trimester.
  • During the first trimester both beginning and experienced practitioners should only do a gentle practice or none at all, as the fetus is still implanting and the risk of miscarriage is highest.
Do I need to book in before coming to a class?

It is recommended that you book to ensure you secure a place in class. Bookings can be made through our pricing page or on the Mind Body app. Please arrive 10 mins prior to class start time. If this is your first class please arrive 15 mins prior for your teacher to meet and find out a little about you and help you settle in. Once your mindbody account is set up it’s quick and easy to simply book into your classes or cancel if you can’t make it. Most people prefer the app for ease.

How much are classes?

We have a number of different options available above depending on your needs. Visit our pricing page to purchase. The most popular and cost effective option is the weekly membership for unlimited classes.

What should I eat prior to class?

In yoga practice refrain from eating 2-3 hrs before class because we twist from side to side, turn upside down, and bend forward and backward. If you have not fully digested your last meal, it may make itself known to you in ways that are not comfortable. If you are a person with a fast-acting digestive system and are afraid you might get hungry or feel weak during yoga class, experiment with a light snack such as yogurt, fruit or a few nuts, about 30 to 60 minutes before class.

Pilates involves moves that are concentrated around your center so big meals are not recommended beforehand—but don’t run on empty either! Try something light at least an hour before your class (2 hours if it’s a big meal) so you’re energised and not lethargic going into your class. You may wish to have a small Snack 30 to 60 mins before your session for a quick energy boost.

What do I need to bring to class?

Come to class with an open mind and a touch of curiosity. You may bring water and a small towel if you wish. Mats are provided for you, however feel free to bring your own. We have beautiful quality non slip mats for sale in the studio for your convenience. All equipment is provided.

What do I wear to class?

Wear something comfortable, practical and has freedom for you to move in. Tights, stretchy pants, singlets, t-shirts or shorts are recommended. We are barefoot in the studio for our classes. Upstairs on your right near the bathroom there is shelving for your shoes and bag.

Where is the studio located?

We are upstairs right next to and above F45. PARKING IS ON THE STREET so we don’t upset other complex owners. Please allow an extra 5 mins to grab a park and wander up….great warmup!! The street can sometimes get busy for 6am and 9:15am classes mon-fri.

Early morning main complex gates are closed until 6:30am. There is a little pedestrian gate to the very left of the left main gate/driveway.

Are there showers?

Yes they are located downstairs.

Where do I park?

We are required to use the street parking so we don’t upset other complex owners. Please allow enough time to park and wander up for your class. The 6am and 9:15am classes can get busy on the street. A little 5 min walk is a great way to get your legs warmed up ready for your class. Early morning main complex gates are closed until 6:30am. There is a little pedestrian gate to the very left of the left main gate/driveway.

Whats the minimum age requirement?

Any age can practice yoga or pilates. However you need to be 16 or above to practice in our studio. If you are 13-16 we require that you have an accompanying adult. Any younger would need to participate in a children’s class.

How do we keep the studio clean and hygienic?

We hold very high cleanliness and hygiene standards. The studio is cleaned daily and with flu season around pay particular attention to disinfecting the mats and equipment after each class. There is hand sanitizer and disinfectant hand wash in the bathrooms for you to use. After the class is complete there are spray bottles for you to clean your mat with ease. You are welcome to bring your own mat to class should you prefer. We do ask if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms to please refrain from attending classes at that time to reduce the risk of exposure to other families, but also for you. It’s important to take time to rest your body and recover to ensure you’re back to your normal health and routine asap.

I’ve never done yoga, pilates or barre before?

We are so excited to guide you through these incredible classes. Check out our yoga pilates page and have a read of each class type to give you an idea.

Most importantly don’t worry. It doesn’t matter what fitness level or experience you have our teachers will take care of you. We will give you options so just make sure you advise the teacher if you’re a beginner or if you have any injuries or concerns. We have studio mats to use or EA mats to purchase or you may bring your own. Bring water.

We have so many beginners to classes all the time and our community is loving and supportive and free from judgement.

Like we tell all our members you are on the mat for your practice and your practice only. Everybody just focuses on themselves and there is no expectation to keep up. Take it at your own pace and never be afraid to ask for assistance.

What’s the difference between yoga & pilates?

Yoga and Pilates are completely different styles of exercise and both training styles complement each other tremendously. They’re both low intense, low impact and focused on the integrated whole of your body, unlike many other forms of exercise.

Yoga originated in India over 5000 yrs ago. Most yoga classes involve flowing through a series of poses that utilise your body weight as resistance. The focus is on improving balance, flexibility while connecting the mind, body, and breath, helping to direct your attention inward. Yoga provides a meditative environment for you to improve your overall quality of life.

Pilates, on the other hand, is a workout method created by Joseph Pilates 100 yrs ago that involves moving through controlled, precise, strength exercises with breath control. Pilates focuses heavily on core strength and stability. Of the two, Pilates tends to be a bit more fast paced than yoga.

Yoga and pilates each have their benefits. The best part is that you don’t have to choose. Combine them both for an amazing way to transform your mind, body and soul connection. Plus they’re both a whole lot of fun!

How many times a week should I practice yoga and/or pilates to gain the most benefits?

Yoga and Pilates are both amazing and even if you only practice for one hour a week you will experience the benefits. The more times you practice will only heighten your benefits listed. Practicing regularly 3-6 times per week is recommended for you to see optimal results, however you need to do what fits in with your lifestyle and desired outcome from your practice. If you’re just starting do what fits in with your schedule first. Then you will probably find you’ll start to fall in love with the practice and naturally want to prioritise and increase the amount of times you attend weekly.

For optimal results we recommend complimenting your exercise with healthy clean nutritious whole foods and hydrating your body with 2-3lts of water daily.
