Want to be a Happier Mum?

Being a Mum is hard!

I’ve been chatting with a few mums lately who’s kids have pushed them to the limits and are exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed and irritable. We all experience that thanks kids ha ha. People think toddlers are hard. I hate to break it to you but so are teens, pre teens and pretty much every stage has challenges, you’re just dealing with a different kind of ‘hard’.

I remember when the kids were at the baby and toddler stage and Tom used to come home from work in a good mood and the moment he walked in I was like ‘I’m done you can have them’ and shove the kids at him in a pissed off mood. Then I wondered why our relationship was strained….! Girls we all go through this!

But they have their precious stages as well and I wouldn’t change being a mum for anything in the world. But it’s still hard.

I have been working out, walking, going to gyms, practicing yoga and was doing pilates privates (there were no studio’s then) since Rylee and Brock were 2 and 6 months and never ever stopped. I made a promise to myself back then I will care for myself and exercise forever. It’s become my STATE, my EXPECTANCY of myself, part of WHO I AM. I prioritised working out not just to lose weight, but for my sanity, confidence and to have a rocking mum bod! To this day I feel pretty amazing at 44 with young adult kids.

People often say ‘I don’t have time to exercise or for self care’. I’m like seriously YOU CAN’T AFFORD NOT TO!

Moving your body buys you more time! But it also give you:

  • Energy to keep up with your kids and have fun and adventure with them
  • Patience because your needs have been met
  • Confidence in your body which leads to you being happier, hitting more life goals
  • Better relationship, connection and sex life because you feel more confident in yourself
  • Self care which leads to more self love, acceptance and fulfilment
  • Great health that’s a no brainer. When you workout you simply eat better
  • Fun! Fitness and classes are so much fun (once you get over the initial nerves)
  • Community with other like minded mums to connect and share with. You might make great friends.
  • Peace and calm in yourself and your household
  • Sets an example to your kids of how to care for yourself and be a happier person

It gives you an outlet to have some time on your own and fill your cup up. But remember you need to honour this for your partner and encourage them to take time out to nurture their needs for self care and fun too.

You’re just a happier mum full stop! We have this ideal of what it looks like to be a happy loving mum, but then you feel like you turn into a cranky woman who is forever yelling at their kids and hoping your neighbours don’t hear you ha ha.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐒 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐁𝐎𝐗 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐋 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

You strengthen your body, create awareness and become so in tune with your body. But the best part is we end every class with a peaceful mindful stretching, relaxation and savasana. Every woman says ‘I just float out’. When you give yourself time to slow down and simply ‘BE’ in a peaceful beautiful ambience in the studio away from kids, chores and noise, you can’t help feel recharged and peaceful.

Even if you walk into a war zone when you get home you deal with it in a different capacity and tend not to snap and lose it at your family. You cope with daily life and stress in a more calm peaceful way and are a better mum to be around.

Trust me hang around our studio long enough and it rubs off. I went from cranky bitch of a mum/wife to Tom telling me I live in a bubble and don’t care . You will find the right balance in between. It’s not that I don’t care, I seriously just don’t sweat the small stuff anymore and feel more calm and grounded in myself, it’s a great place to be.

You can too!

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘! 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞

Start reflecting on your values and what changes you know you need to make.

You might be thinking yeah it’s ok for you. My kids are little and yours are teens. Hang on I made the commitment to exercise and did it consistently since my kids were 2 and 6 months, so I promise you I have been through all stages and found a way to fit it in. If you want a result bad enough you will find a solution. But also know that things are always changing with different life stages and your exercise routine will change along the way, be flexible and adaptive.

My point in all of this is mums, don’t neglect taking care of you in the process of being a mum. You give so much to your families, that you also need to give love and nurturing to yourself in the process.

We can be a mum and a Goddess at the same time ladies!
